Week 11

So you're going to evaluate our blogs, eh?  I'm not threatened...
Contrary to appearances, I've learned alot.  I enjoyed Ancestry and Hobbies and Crafts, I found Health and Newspapers most useful.  Probably the most impressive were the EbscoHost Databases, which will take a great deal longer than a week to really be able to use well, but I'm game.  Thanks for the help.

Week 10

I"m certainly impressed with the size of the available databases and interesting sidelights - I can get Time magazine March 1923 read to me with an Aussi accent.  I could not find ?Periodicals? at all but did find Title List as an option, which seemed to serve the purpose.  I did a basic search  in Ebsco eBook on Constitution Day and came up with one result - "Historical Dictionary of Taiwan (Republic of China).  ???

Week 9

LearningExpress is great, and the tutorial is wonderful, once I got it to run - clear and concise, with enough time to connect what you're reading with the section of the screen it's referring to.  One of the sections I hadn't noticed before was the software tutorials which could be a valuable resource - though it would be better if I could have found a short description of them each.  The practice tests and prep guides do save a great deal of shelf space in a subject area that changes so quickly sometimes it's hard to keep up and that has a high number of disappearances.

Weeks 7,8 & 9

Consumer Health was moderately navigable.  I was glad to see that it contained some information on alternate therapies, and it seemed in general to be a good starting placewhen you want information on a specific condition.
Geneology was tough to get the hang of but fun and addictive.
The LearningExpress tutorial didn't work and it took me quite a while to find the site in the first place, but once on I could get around it.  I've already made use of these with patrons and am very glad to have tried them first.

week 6

I couldn't navigate the Business aspect of Marvel at all - likely because it's not a subject I understand at all, however I did have a chance this week to steer a patron to information she needed on Lyme's disease using Marvel, having noticed the Health option in this investigational game of ours and having now some familiarity in using Marvel, so... THANKS!

weeks 4 & 5

Hobbies and crafts certainly kept me entralled - I certainly spent more time looking at patterns than was really necessary... and I've had a couple of patrons already who were happy to find a new source of  patterns and info for various crafts.
NoveList Plus is great - we're so often looking for 'read-alikes' for people.

caveat

In a very UN-2012 way, I'm not driven to put my thoughts, inane as they are, into the ether for the heck of it - I'm trying to put something here for each of the weeks that we're doing the invitational, but I really hope I can delete it all at the end.  I've been keeping up with the assignments as far as learning more of what Marvel has to offer and how to get at it, and I think it's been worthwhile, but I'm sure hoping fancy blogging isn't essential.  I'm happy to know about the Hobbies and Crafts section - I've already had a chance to share that twice as well as using it myself, but time spent thinking of something weighty to say is time not spent knitting.  Now I'm off to NoveList...
